Advantages of choosing a Ph.D. as a career path

Are you confused about what to do after graduation? Would you like to work in industry or study further and become proficient in a particular field? One of the ways to become a supreme in your field is to hold a doctorate degree. Not only is a Ph.D. holder regarded as the most knowledgeable person in a particular field, but also are in high demand in the industry. Saying that it is also inevitable that you most definitely will find people calling it a wastage of time and money, but it is all worth in the end. Remember the last thing to grow on a fruit tree is the fruit.


But why Ph.D.? I am not saying this is the only way you could excel in a particular field, but it sure is the most regarded and satisfying one. Let’s talk about the advantages of having a Ph.D. Degree over non-PhDs.

After that, you go on to collect all the data related to your problem, conduct experiments and come to your own conclusion. You dive deep into the subject to find your answer rather than rely on Google like the rest of the world. Maybe a different perspective on an already existing theory or a different proposal altogether. Thus, it will push you to think differently than other people.

Two, you develop the skill sets required to excel in any industry. Your ability to think critically and solve a complex problem, along with the highest degree of academic achievement gives you ample opportunity to position yourself in the industry. For instance, if you wish to remain in academia you can work as a professor, head of the department (H.O.D) and other top-level administrative positions, researchers and practitioners. Three, people with a doctoral degree have the preparedness to come out of a negative situation somehow. They tend not to fear failure and learn from it because during the course of making your thesis you do tend to go through many ups and down. For a research paper, students often have to face multiple rejections. You will be challenged to improvise continuously. You are bound to face difficulties, but you find ways to come out of it through persistence.

You would have completed your doctorate under a mentor, often an expert in the area of your interest to guide you in the right direction. Six, you can utilize your deep understanding in your field to find ways to improve society and well-being. Our lifestyle changes quite often based on the research published worldwide. Research in the field of humanity, agriculture, lifestyle, etc. advocates many theories. You can work towards environmental issues which is of the topmost concern of many countries. Identifying problems local to an area and finding a feasible solution is encouraged all over the world.

Seven, you will be entitled to a good monetary compensation, academic as well as non-academic professions. You are eligible for the highest positions in the academic and research positions and would be a lead to frame the approach to a problem or issue. You are never too overqualified for any job. So, if you are really interested to excel in a particular field, getting a Ph.D. in that field should be your goal. Keep your focus on knowing the subject in-depth and enjoy the process of learning.
